Mood: Upset!

Hello!

Today I’m here to address a problem regarding the Blackberry Bold Wi-Fi and BIS issue.

Blackberry is all about going online 24 hours using the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS for short) in which we subscribe via our service provider (Eg Orange, Starhub, Digi, Maxis et al).

Some users may not fancy the idea of subscribing to BIS on a monthly basis because they think it’s alright to leech on hotspots with Wi-Fi all the time however and sadly, Blackberry Bold doesn’t let you off easily.

Just when you think you can save money without the use of BIS by leeching on Wi-Fi networks, you instead find your phone credit/bill going sky high; a leakage in your credit!

I’ve mentioned this matter a bit in my review but here are some emphasis.

Pardon me if I don’t get the terms/jargons correctly! I’m not an expert in this area! <-__->

And in this case, it’s mostly for prepaid users as I have no idea how postpaid works.

Yeh-lo, BB users~

It’s been some time since I last contributed to the BlackBerry Papers and I apologize for the irregular updates!

I didn’t download and test many apps in the past weeks however, there are 2 neat apps I’d like to share with all of you!

For wallpaper lovers — here’s a neat and FREE app by qBOTron! ↓

ShowOff

This app enables your phone to automatically switch wallpapers according to the schedule which you can set.

It can be daily at a certain time or in every 5 to an hour or change by itself every week!

A must-have for users who love to display a variety of wallpapers and itches to change every day~!

Simple and easy to use app!

You just have to create a targeted folder and put all the wallpapers that you’d like to rotate. ↓

And then select your schedule.

A slight downside would be that the app rotates the images randomly; you can’t set for which wallpaper to be used on which day or time. It is completely at random!

Some users may be fine with shuffling your wallpapers however, I still think it’s a good app for wallpaper lovers.

In any case, do download ShowOff and test it yourself!

After all, it is free! (Laughs)

Next free app is the Chess game by Solverlabs. ↓

Good for those who love mind and strategy games!

You can:

  • Play against the computer (5 difficulty levels)

  • Solve chess puzzles

  • Play a handicapped match with the computer (whereby you can handpick which of the comp’s chess pieces to be ‘lenient’)
  • Play against your friend (as in you take turns with your friend. Once you make your move, pass your phone to him or her. NO online matches, sadly!)

Fun and a good time waster? <.__.>

The good thing is that the game does not require you to go online just to play it! Just challenge yourself as when as you like!

So what are you waiting for? <^∀^>

Check it out at the BlackBerry App World to see if your model can support this mind boggling game!

If you did come across these apps and yet to have tried them, get going already! <^∀^>/~ (Laughs)

Now pardon me, I’m off to outsmart a certain CPU. <^ー^>

Middle level is sure — tough… <´•__•`>lll

Well then.. Lots of love~,

Ms Aya

The wallpapers are so not mine and I do not take credit for them (and the apps). If I can retrace where I found them, I’ll leave their owners’ links for sure! So — peace? <^ー^>v

Heylo~♪

A little something for you Blackberry folks~☆!

For the first time, I purchased a theme and I gotta say — I’m loving it very much~!

It’s a cute theme by BerryGoodthemes~☆! ↓

BGT - Bearable 6.0

Bearable
Supports software 6.0

I tried some of the free themes available on Blackberry app world however, they didn’t appear properly and were not very friendly to the eyes.

Then on browsing further I came across this theme (Bearable) which prices at US$0.99 (RM3.15), instantly liked the colors — and purchased it.

It’s quite a neat theme. The highlights are pink in color and comes with a set of new icons~☆. ↓

Ideal for pink lovers AND those who are tired of the standard looking icons.

But I must tell you, not every part is highlighted in pink.↑

When the media card is concerned, it remains default blue. <=__=>lll

Apart from this, the theme is pretty simple, chic and refreshing. The plus side is — there is no error in viewing and it runs smoothly.

That said, if you come across this theme and wondered if it’s worth your dollars, I’m telling you this is what you’ll get. <^-^>/

Oh yes! It goes well with cute and girlish wallpapers too~! ↓

You decide. <^-^>/

Suppose you have any questions, you may fire away in the comments section provided below. <^ω^>/

Greetings!

Since I’m using a BlackBerry phone (9780 to be exact), I thought I should make it a habit to blog short reviews regarding the phone. You see, a smartphone such as a BlackBerry is an ever evolving phone because of it’s ability to add and update software and applications.

As you know, some apps need to be purchased and others are trial versions which will expire in its given time. The reviews written by other BB users via app world are not too convincing in my opinion therefore, I shall give my honest and unbiased review as well as do my best to provide samples on the apps I use.

That’s it for the introduction.

So…

In this blog post, I’m going to introduce you to 2 photo editor applications for your BlackBerry: a FREE app and a PAID app.

PIX TRIX

We’ll begin with the free app, PIX TRIX by Inline Marmalade ltd. ↓

Image in its raw state

PixTrix is a simple app that enables you to apply photographic filters on your photos as well as adjusting the Hue/Saturation and Brightness/Contrast. The app is very user-friendly and takes up as little as 507KB of your memory space.

There are as many as 12 filters to enhance your photos, most of which are yellowish and vintage-like. There is no Black and White effect however half-sepia is available.

You can save the edited photos in 4 sizes:

  1. Original size of the photo
  2. 1000 x 750 pixels
  3. 720 x 540 pixels
  4. 479 x 360 pixels

In addition, you can connect your PixTrix to your Facebook and you will be able to upload your edited photos to your Facebook right away.

PHOTO EDITOR

PhotoEditor by Pepper.pk has a Free Trial version and a Paid Version. You can test drive the Free Trial version by downloading from here. But if you are wondering whether the full version is worth your *US$1.99 (RM3.15), then please allow me to give you an insight on this paid app.

The free trial version (on version 1.0.1, 1410KB) is rather simple and has very basic functions; Crop, Add Brightness/Contrast, Resize and Rotate. These functions may be sufficient to some users.

However, the Paid Version (file size of 853KB) offers much more.

Image in its raw state

You have the standard Editing tools here; Rotate, Resize, Crop and Brightness/Contrast.

The Resize image resolutions (in pixels) available are:

  1. Large → 1024 x 768
  2. Medium → 818 x 614
  3. Small → 614 x 460
  4. Tiny → 408 x 306

Photo Editor 2.0.0 allows you to customize your photos much more than 1.0.1 does.

You have 3 different filters as shown above. ↑

Pop filter

Plus, you get to adjust the RGB of your photos in any shades you like.

There’s a Paint mode whereby you can fill in certain parts with a paint color, add shapes and draw lines.

↑ Available shapes. (Why no heart shape!?)

↑ Available colors on your Palette.

You can also add Frames to your photos. On the top right indicates the color that you have chosen in your Palette for your brush, pen and text mode.

Brush and Pen mode is a bit difficult to use for Bold users. I think those are more appropriate for Torch users as they have touch screen features which makes doodling easier for them.

Then there is the Text mode.

The size and font is according to your phone setting. If you’re using size 6 BBJapanese, then your text will be that.

————————————————

All in all, I’d say these 2 photo editing apps are my favorite. I have not tried other photo apps simply because — I don’t need to. These 2 are good enough for me.

When I first got PhotoEditor version 1.0.1, I had to purchase it at US$1.99. And on updating to version 2, I read that I have to pay another fee of US$1.99 for the application. I took the chance and luckily, it is worth while. I’m given more features and capabilities over my photos.

So that said, do expect a price tag each time PhotoEditor prompts you for an update. You however, DO NOT have to oblige to update your app version if you are satisfied with the way it is.

PixTrix on the other hand, is cool to have especially if you are a fan of vintage and dreamy image feeling.

Both apps run quite smoothly. The speed is rather average and it takes less than half a minute to load and process, depending on the resolution of the image. The smaller the resolution, the faster it processes.

At the moment, this is my report on PixTrix and PhotoEditor!

Thank you for taking your time to read this!

I hope this helps you decide on choosing which photo app to go for~!
